December 2019 - Volume 9, Issue 5

Message from the Superintendent

Where does the time go? It is hard to believe that December is here and we are wrapping up our first semester of the 2019-2020 school year. With the holiday season upon us, we reflect on the activities and wonderful events that have taken place within the District so far.

I am very excited to congratulate Mrs. Stephanie Lucarelli and Mr. Erick Carter for being selected Board Chair and Vice Chair of our School Board. I am certain that with their leadership we will continue to achieve #CCPSSuccess together.

We had a record-breaking attendance of 2,400 registered participants at our 5th Annual 5K Walk-Run. A special thank you to our Power Sponsor, Suncoast Credit Union, for their continued unwavering support. We truly appreciate all of our event sponsors and volunteers for helping us promote health and wellness at such an exciting event.

I had the honor of attending the Entrepreneurship Marketplace event at Corkscrew Middle School just before Fall Break. Entrepreneurship students presented products they developed to not only their peers, but also representatives from seven Florida school districts who came to Collier County to see our program. It was truly astounding to witness the confidence, hard work, and dedication these students put forward to create and be able to sell their very own products.

We want to wish our #CCPSFamily a wonderful and restful holiday season. I hope this Winter Break brings you joy and revitalizes you for a phenomenal 2020!

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

The December holiday break, or any time of year, is a great time to visit the The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (C’mon). C’mon is a place to play, learn, and dream for the whole family. The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples is a brain-building powerhouse with hands-on exhibits for all ages. During a visit to the museum, children can climb inside a two-story banyan tree, become a weather forecaster, a farmer, or a chef. They can explore the cold of an igloo or enjoy the museum's new exhibit about space. The Race to Space exhibit is back by popular demand and is a fun and interactive STEAM adventure. Also, watch for the new Inventioneer's Lab opening soon. This lab will allow visitors to learn new skills with real tools and is great for students in the upper grades. C'mon also offers monthly sensory nights for those students and families who would benefit from them. The Golisano Children's Museum of Naples is located in the North Naples Regional Park off Livingston Road in North Naples. Visit, explore, and get energized about learning!

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT

Amy Hajek
Corkscrew Elementary School (CES)

Corkscrew Elementary School’s Amy Hajek is an amazing Kindergarten volunteer who is willing to help whenever and however teachers need her. Her volunteer mantra is, "Call me anytime. I'm here to support you!" She spends time working behind the scenes prepping material for CES students. For the school's annual Veterans Day celebration, she tirelessly cut red, white, and blue stars and stripes for 100 Kindergarten students! Amy works hard to file guided reading books and jumps in whenever needed. At the Kindergarten Culver’s Night, as a parent and volunteer, Amy greeted and ran food to CES families waiting in the parking lot. She is super positive, upbeat, and always smiling. Corkscrew Elementary is lucky to have Amy as part of the CES Family!
