March 2020 - Volume 9, Issue 8

Message from the Superintendent

February was a month full of academic activities and competitions, including our 9th Annual STEAM Expo. Despite some rainy weather, we welcomed more than 1,600 participants at our explosive event. Kate the Chemist blew us away with another incredible science show. Her energy set the tone for the day as guests enjoyed the STEAM Village, our Entrepreneurship Marketplace, Artist Workshop, and Bistro Café. Click here to watch the video and view photos of this spectacular event.

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

Over a Million Books to Collier Kids

For 15 years, Books for Collier Kids has provided new books to children in Collier County. Founded with the desire to address early literacy and provide books to disadvantaged children, this organization distributes more than 100,000 books to 8,000 children each year. In Collier County, over 62% of children (almost 2 out of every 3 children) receive free/reduced lunch, indicating there is a financial hardship in the home. In these homes, age-appropriate reading material may be scarce and access to books may be limited. Thanks to Books for Collier Kids, children receive one book each month in pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade. These books help children develop early literacy and basic language skills, increased vocabulary, expanded imagination, and a love for reading.
