November 2020 - Volume 10, Issue 4
Message from the Superintendent
Welcome to Quarter 2 of the 2020-2021 school year! It is incredible how quickly the year is progressing. For those students returning to in-person learning for the first time this year, we are excited to see you back on our campuses. For those continuing with virtual learning, keep up the phenomenal work you are doing.
We are looking forward to our upcoming Virtual Symposium titled Social Emotional Learning: COVID-19 and Beyond. The symposium is scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2020, starting at 6:00pm. Learn how parents and school staff can support children during challenging times. Our panel will share Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills for students to add to their toolbox and the importance of self-care for adults in support of children. You can watch LIVE via our online stream at www.collierschools.com or tune in to The Education Channel (channel 99 on Comcast, CenturyLink, or Summit Broadband).
Fall Break is coming up soon! According to our 2020-2021 Academic Calendar, November 23 and 24 are set aside as Hurricane Make-Up Days should the need arise. If those days are not needed, they will be "No School" days. November 25 through November 27 are scheduled as "No School" days for Fall Break. We will provide final determination on those Hurricane Make-Up Days as we get closer.
As we continue navigating this challenging year, we wish our #CCPSFamily a safe, healthy, and restful Fall Break.

Habitat Collier builds homes in partnership with local families. Recently, Habitat completed a home for their 2,300th family. Currently, Habitat is building two communities - one in Naples and one in Immokalee - serving a combined 139 families. The cost to build homes is underwritten through the generosity of individuals, congregations, service groups, businesses, and foundations who donate to Habitat Collier. Additionally, the proceeds from items purchased at their ReStores, as well as homeowner mortgage payments, provide funding for construction.
The families who partner with Habitat purchase their homes with a no-interest mortgage. Families must have lived or worked in Collier County for at least one year, be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, meet minimum income requirements, and make a down payment. Families must also contribute “sweat equity” hours by helping to build homes as well as taking homeownership courses. Click here to learn more details about these requirements and get information about Habitat communities.
If you are interested in volunteering to help build these homes, please visit www.habitatcollier.org/volunteer.
