February 2021 - Volume 10, Issue 7

Message from the Superintendent

Our 10th Annual STEAM Expo was a phenomenal success on January 30th! This year looked a little different as we offered our annual community STEAM event on a virtual platform. More than 2,300 registered participants had the opportunity to experience Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math from the comfort of home! A big THANK YOU to Steve Spangler, our keynote speaker, for joining us and encouraging us all to wonder, discover, and explore! If you missed it or still want to explore more of the fantastic sessions, our STEAM Expo virtual experience remains open at collierschools.com/STEAMexpo. Make sure to check out all the sessions. The video demonstrations and projects, as well as Steve Spangler's keynote presentation, will continue to be available for the remainder of the year and beyond!

The Florida Department of Education released high school graduation rates for the Class of 2020 in January. The graduation rate for CCPS is now 92.2%, an increase of 19.7 percentage points since 2011 and an increase of 0.3 perecentage points compared to 2019. We are proud of the Class of 2020 as students were incredibly resilient during a time of significant challenges, and we are grateful for the incredible support of parents, educators, and community members to help students achieve success.

Student registration for the 2021-2022 school year opens on February 1st for all students, Kindergarten through 12th grade, NEW to the District. The registration process is now completely online. We encourage anyone who needs to register a new student for next school year to complete the process early in order to avoid delays later in the summer. Click here for more information.

On a similar topic, registration for Pre-Kindergarten remains open and we are excited to now offer Pre-K to current three-year-old children who will turn four on or before September 1, 2021. Visit collierschools.com/PreK for more details.

Have a great February!

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

Since 1991, The Immokalee Foundation has been committed to building pathways to success for the children of Immokalee. The Immokalee Foundation's programs range from early childhood literacy education to college preparatory and advanced career technical training. The Immokalee Foundation is devoted to improving the lives of Immokalee's next generation by emphasizing education, as well as technical, career, and life skills. The Foundation's programs provide students with opportunities to grow, learn, and advance to educational and professional heights that they never dreamed possible, leading to economic independence. The Immokalee Foundation serves more than 1,400 Immokalee children each year and their students achieve a stellar 100% high school graduation rate, 100% college/vocational school admission rate, and 91% post-secondary graduation rate.

Working with Immokalee Technical College (iTECH), BCB Homes, and Collier Enterprises, The Immokalee Foundation developed a high school curriculum to address the critical need for hands-on professional career experience. The Immokalee Foundation is constructing a new 18-home subdivision in Immokalee that serves as a hand-on professional career experience for the Foundation’s students. The Career Pathways Learning Lab is a unique project that enables students involved in the Foundation’s Engineering and Construction Management and Business Management and Entrepreneurship Pathways to work with industry professionals and learn about land development, home construction, marketing, and sales.
