December 2023

A Note from Dr. Leslie C. Ricciardelli

December is here and we will soon wrap up the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year! Our school district has seen many accomplishments this year including the recent announcement that CCPS has once again earned an "A" rating! We are now ranked sixth in the state (out of 67 school districts) and one of only 16 Florida districts rated as an "A." This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our exceptional teachers, administrators, and support staff who work with our students each day.

Congratulations to Mrs. Kelly Lichter and Mrs. Stephanie Lucarelli for being selected as Board Chair and Vice Chair of our School Board. I am certain their leadership will continue moving us forward in achieving our vision of inspiring students to achieve academic excellence.

I want to take a moment to also congratulate Marjorie Kenol, our Coordinator of Risk Management Services. She recently received the Florida Educational Risk Management Association Best Practices Award! Thank you, Marjorie, for your hard work and dedication to CCPS.

Our students have also received many recognitions. Congratulations are in order for our Collier County students selected to participate in the 2024 All-State ensembles (click here for list), Immokalee Middle School student Stephanie Celazco-Ramirez for having her art work selected to be displayed at the Florida Capitol, and the winning artists of the Centennial Public High Student Art Contest (click here to see winners) and this year's Art for Democracy contest (click here to see winners), including East Naples Middle student Briélle Présumé whose artwork was selected for next year's "I Voted" stickers.

Thank you to all who provided input on our series of questions for Planning the Pathway to our new strategic plan. You can view the results by visiting www.collierschools.com/strategicplan. Additional opportunities for input will be available during Phase 2 of the process later this school year.

Get ready for an underwater adventure coming in the new year! Registration for the 2023-2024 STEAM Expo is now open at www.collierschools.com/STEAMexpo. The event will be held at Aubrey Rogers High School on Saturday, January 27. Our keynote speaker, Emmy winning filmmaker and Shark Specialist Andy Casagrande is ready to take us on an exciting shark-seeking mission! Plus, our STEAM Village will be filled with ocean-themed, hands-on, interactive activities.

With Winter Break upon us, I want to wish our CCPS Family a restful holiday season filled with joy and cherished memories. See you in 2024!

A Note from the School Board

As 2023 winds down and we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Collier County, I look forward to a productive 2024. Looking back at the last year, I want to recognize a few highlights that I’m proud to have played a part in as a board member.

We hired a new superintendent, Dr. Leslie Ricciardelli. Dr. Ricciardelli works well with staff and the Board, as well as teachers, students, and district support staff. I attended every high school football game in the county, and enjoyed talking to principals, assistant principals, staff, students, and parents. During the conversations, I heard perspectives about our county’s needs, and I applied their thoughts to our school board decisions.

I’m so excited for this new year to encourage our students in the basic premises of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

~ Tim Moshier, Board Member

ALUMNI NEWS

SABYNE BRISSON
Class of 2023
Naples High School

Naples High School alumna Sabyne Brisson is a freshman at Georgia Tech (GT) studying Mechanical Engineering. This swimming powerhouse has been breaking records since the season started in September. In October – on a single day of competition – she broke not one, but two school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke (both held since 2017). Then in November, she broke her own school record in the 200 breaststroke and was part of a record-setting GT quartet in the 400 medley relay. As if the school records weren’t exciting enough, Sabyne has qualified for the Olympic Trials in both individual events. The Olympic Trials will take place this summer in June in Indianapolis, Indiana. We are so proud of you, Sabyne!
