July 2023 |

|
|
We are just a few weeks away from welcoming our students back for the 2023-24 school year! Staff and administrators have been working hard to prepare our campuses and curriculum for another year of academic excellence.

As we open our doors on August 10, we will also usher in our school district's centennial. Did you know that the first Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Tommie C. Barfield, facilitated the first organizational meeting of what was then called The Board of Public Instruction of Collier County on July 9,1923, in Everglades, Florida (now known as Everglades City)? This year we will mark 100 years since our school district has been in operation and I am honored to celebrate our centennial year as your Superintendent. Stay tuned throughout the school year as we share more about our 100 years. |

Earlier this year, the Florida Legislature passed House Bill 1, which included a requirement that the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) develop and submit to the Governor and Legislature a set of recommendations to reduce regulation of public schools. If you are interested in submitting input to the FDOE, please click here to complete their survey prior to August 15, 2023. |

This past July 4th marked our country’s 247th birthday! This year also marks Collier County’s 100th anniversary. It was an honor to be at the 100th Anniversary Celebration in Everglades City, Florida, along with our newly appointed superintendent, Dr. Leslie Ricciardelli. |

Another highlight as Vice Chair of the School Board of Collier County, was participating in the ceremony for the 2023 graduating classes of Everglades City School and Palmetto Ridge High School. These graduation ceremonies celebrating the accomplishments of the students, families, and faculty were amazing. The best part, besides addressing them as they entered the next chapter of their lives, was that Everglades was the smallest graduating class and Palmetto Ridge was one of the largest in Collier County! The results of their accomplishments were important to them, and I was honored to be a part of this milestone. |
|
I was also honored to attend the 2023 Project Explore Celebration and Awards Dinner. This celebration showed that regardless of who you are you can do it. |
|
Lastly, I am looking forward to the ribbon cutting ceremony for our newest school, Aubrey Rogers High School, on Tuesday, August 1st. |
|
Respectfully, |
~ Tim Moshier, Board Vice Chair (District 5) |

AMERICAN RED CROSS TOP PROVIDER AWARD |
CCPS recently received the American Red Cross Top Provider Award for the State of Florida! The American Red Cross recognizes providers in each of its regions who train the most people to save lives in a calendar year, certifying them for skills including first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding. Our Health and Physical Education department spearheaded the CPR Save-a-Life Initiative in 2022 and was able to provide 490 CPR/AED Red Cross certifications last school year. |
