January 2024

A Note from Dr. Leslie C. Ricciardelli

Welcome to 2024! Second semester is underway and we are excited to start the new year with many great upcoming events.
  • Virtual Financial Aid Night (January 22 at 6:00pm) - If you have a high school senior, be sure to make time to watch this streaming event. Local experts will share important financial aid information and help you understand the process of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can watch online (www.collierschools.com), on The Education Channel (channel 99), or on the CCPS Mobile App.

  • Preparation Saves Lives (January 25 at 6:00pm, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center) - If you are a parent of a student with disabilities, join us to learn how you can prevent a tragedy. A panel of speakers will share information about drowning prevention, home safety evaluations, and available resources. Click here for details.

  • 2023-2024 STEAM Expo (January 27 at 8:30am, Aubrey Rogers High School) - Join us for a fun Saturday morning full of underwater exploration! Our keynote speaker, Emmy-winning filmmaker and Shark Specialist Andy Casagrande, is ready to take us on an exciting shark-seeking mission! Plus, our STEAM Village will be filled with ocean-themed, hands-on, interactive activities. Click here to register!

  • CCPS Hockey Night with the Everblades (February 9 at 7:30pm, Hertz Arena) - Join our CCPS Family to watch the Kelly Cup Champion Florida Everblades take on the New York Adirondack Thunder. This event is open to CCPS staff, students, families, friends, and alumni! Tickets are just $15. Click here to purchase.
Proposed attendance boundary modifications at the elementary, middle, and high school levels are currently being considered. These proposed modifications would be effective at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. We invite you to visit www.collierschools.com/boundary to view the proposed attendance boundary modification maps and provide feedback which the School Board will consider before making any final decisions. The website also provides an interactive zoning tool and dates for upcoming Open House Meetings. We appreciate your input and participation in the School Attendance Boundary Modification process.

District Calendar

A Note from the School Board

At the Regular School Board Meeting on Tuesday (January 16), the Board voted and approved an amended calendar for 2024-2025 as well as the 2025-2026 calendar. We appreciate the work done by the calendar committee as this was no easy task trying to accommodate various holidays, professional development, and other considerations for student learning.

As a parent, I realize how much the annual academic calendar impacts the lives of families, so I am thoughtful of the delicate balance needed to try and make it accommodating for most of our families, faculty, and staff.

Reviewing and approving this year’s calendar made me reflect on time and how quickly this year has flown by. Is it me or does time seem to go faster the older we get? My message today is dedicated to parents of seniors. While the next four months will likely be a blur and go quicker than you want it to, enjoy these special moments with your senior. Our school district offers many opportunities to honor and recognize the class of 2024 as well as many events that will be an integral part of their final year in high school. We will all do our part to show these students how much we care and support them on their journey and encourage them beyond their years with us in the Collier County School District.

With gratitude,
~ Kelly Lichter, Board Chair

“How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?" -Dr. Seuss
