I want to start with sharing the good news that the Florida Department of Education has designated Collier County Public Schools as an Academically High-Performing School District! This recognition is based on school/district grades, class size compliance, and financial audit reviews. Thank you to our CCPS family for their continued dedication to academic excellence in Collier County! |

The past few weeks have certainly been unusual, with two hurricanes and several unexpected days off from school. We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we adjusted school and district operations based on anticipated storm and recovery impacts. A heartfelt thank you goes to the dedicated school and district staff who supported more than 2,600 community members at nine school-site emergency shelters. Your efforts to keep our community safe are deeply appreciated! |

Due to the missed time from Hurricane Milton, we have moved the end of Quarter 1 back one week. Therefore, the Teacher Planning Day originally scheduled for Friday, October 18, 2024, will now be on Friday, October 25, 2024. As a result, students will go to school this Friday (October 18) but will not attend school on Friday, October 25, 2024. Per School Board direction at this week's Special Board Meeting, the days designated as Hurricane Make-Up Days in November will NOT be used. Therefore, November 25 and November 26 will remain as days off for students and staff. District staff will bring considerations for any revisions to the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar to the Regular School Board Meeting on November 12, 2024. |
This week is National School Lunch Week! We want to thank our amazing CCPS Nutrition Services staff for their commitment to providing nutritious meals that help our students thrive academically. Your hard work makes a difference every day! |
We also want to remind you about an important item on the upcoming November 5 General Election ballot. The continuation of Collier County Public Schools’ Tax-Neutral Referendum will appear as the last item on the ballot, titled “Continue Tax-Neutral Flexible Funding for Collier County Public Schools.” This referendum allows the School Board to shift district funding—raising the operating budget for salaries, utilities, and instructional materials while reducing capital funding for buildings and infrastructure by the same amount. You can learn more by visiting www.collierschools.com/referendum or watching an informational video linked here. |
As we continue through Hurricane Season, which lasts until November 30, we remain hopeful the weather will cooperate, allowing us to focus on making this school year a success. |
Thank you for being a valued part of our CCPS family! |

Football season is here again, and my district team, the Lely Trojans, after a disappointing season opener, came roaring back with a 66-36 win over Golden Gate HS, and have been doing quite well since. GO TROJANS! |
We finally settled the CCEA negotiations regarding an increase in teacher pay. Perhaps the greatest reward a teacher will ever have is the success of the students they have taught. A teacher's imprint on their students will last a life time. |
We broke ground on the new Bear Creek School, and construction is underway. |
The Board also had a discussion on upcoming legislation, passed our budget for the year, and will be approving the changes to policies. It has been a busy month. |
We also faced two hurricanes with devastating results, as Helene passed through and went north. We were fortunate here in Naples when the next hurricane passed us by, leaving behind much lighter damage than was expected, and less than some other areas nearby. |
With elections right around the corner, I pray that our Republic will stand, our Sovereignty will remain, God will be glorified, and the peace that passes all understanding will saturate our Lord. |
In His service and yours, |
Jerry Rutherford, Board Member (District 1) |
