| The District School Board of Collier County has proclaimed the month of February as Youth Relations Deputy Appreciation Month to honor the work of our law enforcement partners at the Collier County Sheriff's Office and Marco Island Police Department. They continue to play an essential role in keeping our students and staff safe each day. Please take time to thank your school deputies for their service, compassion, and security, as well as the positive relationships they build within our school community. | It’s hard to believe we only have four months left of the 2024-2025 school year. |

As we look back at the last six months, I must admit there have been numerous events that stand out. These include the spirit of the students who graduated and overcame obstacles at the midterm graduation of 2024. Another example would be the retirement of Jon Fishbane, School District Attorney, we will miss him as he enters the next chapter of his life. I’m sure we’ll cross paths around Naples. Thank you Jon for all you have done for the school district and for the years of service you’ve given to the Collier County Public Schools. In addition, another milestone this year is the almost completed Bear Creek Elementary School. We are slated for the ribbon cutting in August of 2025.

In the past month I’ve visited all the schools in District five. This experience has been enlightening and has built confidence in the community that their seat five board member really does care for each and everyone of them.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Florida Stone Crab Association, Holly, Kelly, and Kerry for putting together the 55th annual Everglades City Seafood Festival. Their effort has brought to all the proceeds from the three day event that go to Everglades City Schools. I also want to thank Everglades City School's principal, Cherie Allison, and the school and district staff who supported this event. Thank you for everything you do for the community.
